Who is Jean Krause?
Misconceptions about me (Jean Krause) tend to be a growth industry in Virgin. I hear many things being said that surprise me to no end. Below I break down what is true and false. Prepare to be surprised!
Fiction
- Jean is anti-growth
- Jean is anti-business
- Jean is against vacation rentals
- Jean is anti-property rights
Fact
- I am NOT anti-growth and I never have been.
- I simply believe in wise and responsible planning, that growth should be in appropriate places, and that the town should be equipped to handle any growth.
- I am NOT anti-business and I never have been.
- I simply do not believe that all business in town needs to be big developments.
- I fully support the growth of local businesses. I grew up in a mom-and-pop business and started working there at the age of 12. Our town needs to get creative with ways to support people in small or home-based businesses. Small businesses are the life-blood of communities.
- While previously serving on town council, I not only voted to approve the Fairfield Suites here in Virgin, but I instigated the development agreement for the hotel despite the wailing, gnashing of teeth, and rending of cloth by my friends who opposed it.
- While previously serving on town council, I instigated the ordinance that expanded Highway Resort Zone (HRZ) up Kolob Terrace Road. My term on town council expired before the ordinance was voted upon, but I started the whole process.
- If I was anti-business, I never would have started and supported either of these two actions that brought business to Virgin.
- I am NOT against vacation rentals and I never have been.
- What I was against in the past was illegal vacation rentals. Now that we have a town code authorizing vacation rentals, I support them. All I ask is that people follow the law.
- I am NOT against property rights as they are laid out by law. The problem with “property rights” is that the legal definition and personal definitions may differ. But laws are rarely black and white; many laws are actually gray. This means that compromise can be found once the parties discuss what is important to the town and what is important to the property owner. I am a being believer in compromise and listening to people’s concerns.
